2015 was the second year that we set up at the annual Boyd County Fair, and going into it we knew that we had to make some necessary adaptions to keep up with the demand.
If you look closely to the left, you can see the first appearance of our upright smoker, built out of an old propane tank by the Pitmaster himself. This marked the beginning of our dual-smoker era, which not only increased our capacity for food production, but also allowed for a method that enhanced the quality of our smoked meats. This upright smoker served as our main instrument for smoking until a few months ago when it was replaced by yet another bigger and better smoker. The great things about these smokers is that like a cast-iron skillet, they only get better with time, and so we still use it sometimes in our daily operations.
Zoom in on the cutout Dorky and you can see a very faint signature on his right shoulder. This was Sundy Best, who performed at Railroad Days a few weeks prior. As I mentioned in the previous #throwbackthursday post, we continued this new tradition and obtained the signatures of that year’s headline act: A Thousand Horses, known for their hit single “Smoke”.
You’ll also notice that in the time between this and the previous event, Cliff got a clean haircut and retired his Willie Robertson look. You’ll find in time that the flow was not destroyed, only transferred.
